Silver Shadow II
Perhaps the most iconic of all post war Rolls-Royces is the Silver Shadow, with its tremendous road presence; the most desirable Shadow model is the Shadow II, introduced in 1977. The car was the manufacturer’s response to claims it was falling behind the times, and had lost contact with modern developments. It was the first Rolls Royce to use a monocoque chassis (A metal structure, such as an aircraft, in which the skin absorbs all or most of the stresses to which the body is subjected.) and to date has the largest production volume of any Rolls Royce.
The sixties and seventies brought an era in which heroes of music and sport were suddenly catapulted up the earning stakes, and for many of them, a Rolls Royce was the ultimate style statement. Suddenly Rolls Royce’s traditional customer base of old money, barristers and Harley Street Doctors, found themselves grouped with successful business men, sport celebrities and pop stars.
When Barry Sheene bought the first of five new Shadows he received a discount from Rolls Royce which was totally unheard of. “I sold them a lot of cars – I persuaded George Harrison to buy one back in 1976, I was a good ambassador” recalled Sheene in an interview in 1999. Other celebrity owners include Eric Morecombe, Harry Secombe and Elton John to name but a few.
Our Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II is we believe, one of the finest examples in the country and is a ‘time capsule’ looking like it has just driven out of the showroom in 1978. This car was bought by us in 2007 with a genuine mileage of 16,000! It has spent much of its life on the Isle of Man in storage.
Being of typical Rolls Royce luxury and superb high quality, this stunning car is the perfect transport for your wedding day. With vanity mirrors, air conditioning and enough legroom to accommodate even the grandest of bridal gowns, you are sure to impress your wedding guests as you arrive in style.
